Look out world, here comes this year’s color – a beautiful melding of some colors from years past, Serenity and Rose Quartz have been mixed and the resulting creation is called Ultra Violet!
 
If you don’t know who Pantone is, you’re about to get a short explanation. To basically sum them up, The Pantone Color Institute is the authority for all designers to look to for the coming year and season’s colors that they should design around. They forecast a color of the year, in 2018’s case they chose Ultra Violet towards the beginning of December 2017, and then they choose a complementary palate for each of the moods that can be created with that color. Designers from around the world come together to create Fashion on all levels, from Clothes to Jewelry to Interior Designs, to match and complement your fashion-needs for your life and home, for the next year or so.

​Pantone says that this year’s color is “A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.”

And I can't think of a better color to represent this year of inspiration, connection, healing, and awakening! ​​
 
Why am I writing about this now? Because February is just around the corner and the celebrated birthstone is Amethyst – a perfect example of 2018’s color of the year in action!
